Friends,
The gift of song first came to me through my mother—whose spirit sang with beauty—and from her own mother, a church musician in Knock, County Mayo. That same song echoed in the voices of the Congregation of Notre Dame, drawing me into their life of “Magnificat,” first heard in the luminous voice of Carolyn Brown. And how richly blessed I was to meet Father John Giuliani at Sacred Heart University, where our shared gifts cultivated a beloved community of kindred spirits.
In time, the song found its truest home at the Benedictine Grange—Father John’s long ministry of liturgical beauty—where a circle of dear companions became “Schola,” and where Evelyn Avoglia and I were graced to serve as composers in residence. These songs are the fruit of that sacred season—given freely, born of deep listening, and offered to any heart seeking prayer, praise, and peace. May they become your own heart’s song, as they remain mine.
